Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman Return as Witch Sisters in the New Practical Magic 2 Trailer
Warner Bros. has released a teaser for Practical Magic 2, following its preview at CinemaCon last week in Las Vegas. The film, a sequel to the beloved 1998 romantic fantasy, reunites actresses Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman as sisters Sally and Gillian Owens, members of a multi-generational family of witches cursed to live loveless lives.
In the teaser, Bullock’s character introduces the Owens family, saying, “I’m sure you’ve heard of the Owens family — the ones from Massachusetts, the ones their neighbors whisper are witches.”
The storyline progresses with a character played by Lee Pace encountering the sisters, as Sally ominously remarks, “Everyone we love dies.” Kidman’s Gillian adds humor to the dark theme, stating, “A really horrible death… It’s not great for the Tinder bio.”
The teaser features additional footage accompanied by Harry Nilsson’s “Coconut Song,” showcasing the daughters of Sally, played by Joey King and Maisie Williams, who grapple with the family curse. In one scene, Gillian reassures Sally, “Everything’s going to be okay,” to which Sally retorts, “Everything’s going to be okay? Just like it was when we had to bury a corpse under a rose bush? That kind of fine, or different?”
The original Practical Magic was directed by Griffin Dunne and adapted from Alice Hoffman’s 1995 novel. This time, Susanne Bier, known for The Perfect Couple and Bird Box, takes the helm. Akiva Goldsman, who co-wrote the original film, returns to collaborate with Succession’s Georgia Pritchett on the screenplay.
The film is produced by Bullock, Kidman, and Denise Di Novi, with a release date set for September 11. The cast also features returning talents Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing, alongside newcomers Xolo Maridueña and Solly McLeod.
