### Ryan Lochte to Auction Off Olympic Gold Medals
Ryan Lochte is set to auction three of his six Olympic gold medals, according to an announcement from Goldin Auctions made on December 10. These medals were earned during the 2004, 2008, and 2016 Olympic Games.
Lochte, now 41, shared the news through a video posted on Goldin’s social media, revealing that the auction will begin on the evening of December 10. The post highlighted that the medals, recently consigned, embody Lochte’s significant achievements in Olympic history, stating, “Each medal tells a story of dominance, teamwork, and history.”
In the video, Lochte appeared alongside a representative from the auction house, affirming that these notable pieces from his career are now available for enthusiasts and collectors.
“My Olympic medals represent memories I’ll carry for life, but now I want them to do more than sit on a shelf,” Lochte commented. He emphasized his desire for the medals to inspire and empower others, adding, “If these medals can give someone hope, fuel their dreams or help them reach their full potential, then this is the greatest way I can give back.”
Lochte won his last gold medal in 2016, shortly before facing a 10-month suspension from USA Swimming. This suspension followed a widely publicized incident in which Lochte, along with three teammates, falsely claimed they were robbed at gunpoint during the Rio Olympics. Subsequent investigations revealed that the incident was an exaggeration intended to cover up a confrontation with security personnel over alleged vandalism.
Reflecting on the turmoil surrounding that event, Lochte stated, “I went from hero to zero in a blink of an eye.” He acknowledged his responsibility in the matter, saying, “There’s no one else to blame.”
In addition to the auction announcement, Lochte has revealed plans for a memoir. He has also been candid about his ongoing personal challenges, including a recent divorce and struggles with mental health and substance abuse. Earlier this year, Lochte sought professional help after experiencing a period of depression and loneliness. He noted, “You’re going to get knocked out or hit a road block. It’s not how you get knocked out, it’s how you keep moving forward.”
As he continues his journey, Lochte aims to better himself each day, encouraging others facing similar struggles to reach out and confront their issues.
