Rose Leslie, Andreas Pietschmann, and Daniel Zovatto Team Up with Russell Crowe in ‘The Last Druid’; Gladiator Star Set to Confront the Roman Empire Again This June at Cannes Market
Rose Leslie, Andreas Pietschmann, and Daniel Zovatto Join Russell Crowe in ‘The Last Druid’
Rose Leslie, known for her role in Game of Thrones, along with Andreas Pietschmann (Nuremberg) and Daniel Zovatto (Don’t Breathe), will star alongside Oscar winner Russell Crowe in the upcoming action-drama The Last Druid. Production is set to commence on June 8 in Barcelona and the Canary Islands, Spain.
This project marks a reunion of sorts for Crowe, who previously portrayed a warrior in Gladiator 25 years ago. In The Last Druid, he plays a Roman Emperor who discovers a secluded Druid stronghold in the mountains of Caledonia. The character, a peaceful Celtic elder, must take arms to defend his family and community from impending destruction.
William Eubank, recognized for Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin, will direct the film, which features a screenplay co-written by Eubank, Phil Gawthorne (Modern Life is Rubbish), and Carlyle Eubank (Muzzle).
The film is produced by a notable team that includes Adrián Guerra (Buried), Brian Kavanaugh-Jones (Longlegs), Fred Berger (La La Land), and Ben Pugh (The Courier). Executive producers include Núria Valls, Xavier Parache, AJ Bourscheid, Brandon Millan, Sam Wasson, George Hsieh, and Stuart Ford.
As previously reported, AGC has pre-sold The Last Druid in multiple international markets, including a deal with Amazon for several territories. Further negotiations regarding the film are anticipated at this week’s Cannes market.
The crew for the project features director of photography Agustin Claramunt (Land of Bad), production designer Laia Colet (Bird Box: Barcelona), costume designer Alberto Valcárcel (The Embassy), special effects supervisor Pau Costa (Den of Thieves: Pantera), and line producer Rubén Gómez.
Financing for the film was facilitated by Range Media Partners and CAA Media Finance, with Nostromo Pictures involved and handling U.S. rights. International sales will be handled by AGC.
