Robert Aramayo Shines at the BAFTA Film Awards with Best Actor Win
In a startling turn at the BAFTA Film Awards, Robert Aramayo captured the Best Leading Actor award, outshining industry heavyweights Leonardo DiCaprio and Timothée Chalamet.
The English actor, best known for his role in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, earned the accolade for his portrayal of John Davidson, a campaigner for Tourette syndrome, in the British film I Swear.
Additionally, Aramayo made history by winning both the Leading Actor award and the Rising Star Award in the same evening, becoming the first performer to achieve this feat at BAFTA.
His win elicited cheers from attendees at London’s Royal Festival Hall. During his acceptance speech, a visibly overwhelmed Aramayo expressed disbelief at his accomplishment.
“I honestly cannot believe that I have won this award. I really, really cannot. Everyone in this category blows me away,” he stated.
Aramayo also extended his gratitude to fellow nominee Ethan Hawke, recalling how Hawke’s visit to Juilliard had a lasting impact on his acting journey. “When I was in school, Ethan Hawke came in to speak to us at Juilliard and he gave an amazing talk on longevity as an actor, about protecting your instrument and avoiding self-destructive behaviors. And it had a really great impact on everyone in that room. So to be in this category with you tonight is incredible. Thank you, Ethan,” he said.
In his remarks upon receiving the Rising Star Award, Aramayo described Davidson as “the most remarkable man I’ve ever met.”
