Rob Reiner’s Cause of Death Confirmed by LA Medical Examiner
Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner Found Dead in Brentwood Home
Renowned filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, were found dead in their Brentwood home on December 14, 2025, following what the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner classified as “multiple sharp force injuries.”
This official determination corroborates earlier information released by law enforcement and the L.A. County District Attorney’s office regarding the couple’s tragic demise. The 78-year-old director and his 68-year-old spouse were reportedly killed over the weekend, as noted in the Medical Examiner’s report. The announcement coincides with the first court appearance of their youngest son, Nick Reiner, who faces two counts of first-degree murder.
The preliminary findings indicate the manner of death is classified as homicide. Medical examiner Jennifer Hertzog, alongside two deputy examiners, confirmed that the couple’s remains are “ready for release.”
The Medical Examiner’s office has firmly established December 14 as the date of death, putting an end to speculation surrounding when the Reiners were killed.

Nick Reiner is currently in custody, having been arrested by the LAPD soon after his sister Romy discovered their parents’ bodies on the first night of Hanukkah. Facing serious charges, including the possibility of life imprisonment without parole or even the death penalty, the 32-year-old did not enter a plea at a brief hearing. He is scheduled to return to court on January 6.
In a joint statement, Romy and their older brother Jake expressed their grief over the “horrific and devastating loss of our parents,” emphasizing that such a tragedy should never be endured. They fondly remembered Rob and Michele as not just parents but as their best friends.
The LAPD’s investigation into the Reiners’ deaths is ongoing, even as charges have been filed against Nick. The Medical Examiner’s office has also indicated that the case remains “open,” with a comprehensive report expected in the next 90 days.
