Rob Lowe Joins Cast of Amazon’s Romantic Comedy
Rob Lowe has joined the ensemble cast of an upcoming romantic comedy directed by Stephen Merchant and starring Cameron Diaz, set to be released by Amazon MGM Studios.
Lowe, known for his role in The West Wing, is part of a diverse lineup that includes Jake Lacy, Josh Segarra, Sherry Cola, Judith Light, Myra Lucretia Taylor, Fabrizio Guido, Lisa Gilroy, and Dustin Ybarra.
The film’s script, co-written by Merchant and John Butler, centers on a workaholic Brit working at an upscale New York hotel, who needs a wife for appearances. He meets a struggling stand-up comedian, played by Diaz, who is in desperate need of health insurance. What begins as a transactional fake marriage evolves into an unexpected romance. Lee Eisenberg, Merchant, and the team at Point Grey Pictures—Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, and Josh Fagen—are producing the film, with Natalie Sandy serving as executive producer.
Rob Lowe boasts an impressive career that includes two Emmy nominations, six Golden Globe nominations, and four Screen Actors Guild Awards, with two wins. His notable works include St. Elmo’s Fire, About Last Night, and The Outsiders, as well as Parks and Recreation. He has also appeared in Behind the Candelabra, Austin Powers, and Tommy Boy. His memoirs, Stories I Only Tell My Friends and Love Life, gained recognition as New York Times Best Sellers, with the former inspiring a touring show titled Stories I Only Tell My Friends: Live!
Most recently, Lowe starred in and produced Fox’s 9-1-1: Lone Star and currently hosts the hit game show, The Floor. His Netflix comedy series, Unstable, co-starring his son, John Owen Lowe, draws inspiration from their playful social media interactions. Next, Lowe will appear in Bleecker Street’s The Third Parent alongside Crispin Glover. He is represented by WME, Brillstein, and Latham & Watkins.
