Rob and Michele Reiner’s Kids Share Heartfelt Statement Following Their Parents’ Tragic Deaths
Arraignment for Nick Reiner Delayed Following Parents’ Tragic Deaths
LOS ANGELES – Nick Reiner, the son of prominent filmmaker Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, appeared in a downtown Los Angeles courtroom on Wednesday amid serious charges related to the deaths of his parents. His official arraignment has been rescheduled for January 7, 2026.
During his brief court appearance, Reiner, age 32, was seen in shackles and wearing a suicide prevention smock. He did not enter a plea to the two counts of first-degree murder he faces. Defense attorney Alan Jackson described the case as a "complex and serious" tragedy, prompting the postponement to allow for a thorough examination of the details.
In a poignant statement released Wednesday, Reiner’s siblings, Jake and Romy, expressed their profound grief over their parents’ passing. They described the situation as "unimaginable pain" and a "devastating loss," and they requested privacy for their family during this difficult period.
"Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day," they stated. "The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends."
Following the announcement of their deaths on December 14, tributes have poured in from various notable figures, highlighting the kindness and positive impact of Rob and Michele Reiner. Former First Lady Michelle Obama shared on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" that she and her husband had planned to have dinner with the couple on the night of the tragedy.
The circumstances surrounding the deaths are grim. Romy Reiner discovered her parents deceased in their Brentwood home. Authorities reported that Nick was not present when officers arrived and left the scene shortly after the attacks. Surveillance footage captured him purchasing Gatorade at a gas station near the University of Southern California before his arrest approximately 14 miles from the crime scene.
Nick has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, with prosecutors additionally alleging multiple murders and the use of a knife, a dangerous weapon. These factors may result in a more severe sentence. The LA County District Attorney has yet to decide whether to seek the death penalty.
Reports indicate an argument occurred between Nick and Rob Reiner at a holiday party just hours before the killings. Following the incident, Nick checked into a hotel where staff reported finding significant blood in his room.
As the investigation unfolds, the tragedy has left a lasting impact not only on the Reiner family but on many who admired Rob and Michele’s contributions to their community and the film industry.
