Repairs and Closures on Angeles Crest Highway Due to Recent Heavy Rainfall
Angeles Crest Highway Closed Indefinitely Due to Damage
A significant section of the Angeles Crest Highway has been closed indefinitely as crews assess damage and begin repairs following a recent period of heavy rainfall, according to Caltrans.
The closure affects approximately 30 miles of the highway, starting 3.3 miles east of Newcomb’s Ranch and extending to Big Pines Highway.
Caltrans indicated that the closure resulted from landslides, rockfalls, and slope erosion caused by the rain earlier in the week. Approximately 40 locations along the highway have been identified for repair.
Repair efforts will include the installation of K-rail around washed-out shoulders and roadways, restoration of eroded slopes and embankments beneath the roadway, and implementation of erosion control measures to prevent further degradation.
Officials have advised motorists to plan their routes accordingly and avoid the area during the repair period. For the latest information on road conditions and closures, Caltrans recommends checking their QuickMap resource.
