The band reported that Bamonte died "after a short illness at home" on December 25.
"It is with enormous sadness that we confirm the death of our great friend and bandmate Perry Bamonte who passed away after a short illness at home over Christmas," the statement read. The band characterized him as "quiet, intense, intuitive, constant, and hugely creative," highlighting his warm-hearted nature and vital contributions.
Bamonte first joined The Cure’s road crew in 1984, later serving as guitar technician and personal assistant to Robert Smith. He became a full-time member in 1990, contributing to several albums, including Wish, Wild Mood Swings, Bloodflowers, Acoustic Hits, and The Cure. Over his 14-year tenure, he performed in more than 400 shows.

Born in London in 1960, Bamonte leaves behind a legacy of musical artistry that will be deeply missed. The Cure’s official statement concluded, "Our thoughts and condolences are with all his family. He will be very greatly missed."
