Guy Moon, Renowned Composer, Dies at 63
Guy Moon, the composer known for his work on animated series such as Nickelodeon’s The Fairly OddParents, passed away on January 8 in Los Angeles after a traffic accident. He was 63 years old.
His family announced his death in a Facebook post on January 10, revealing that Moon was struck by a vehicle while riding his Vespa scooter in the Wilmington neighborhood. He succumbed to traumatic injuries at the scene of the accident.
Moon made his mark as the composer for The Fairly OddParents, where he crafted scores for over 150 episodes from 2001 to 2017. This beloved series followed the adventures of Timmy Turner and garnered a significant fan base.
Throughout his career, Moon received notable acclaim, including four Primetime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Music and Lyrics from 2002 to 2004 for his contributions to the show. Each nomination featured collaborations with lyricists Butch Hartman, Steve Marmel, and Scott Fellows on one of the tracks.
He also won three consecutive BMI Cable Awards at the BMI Film & TV Awards from 2002 to 2004, shared with Hartman and Ron Jones, for his work on The Fairly OddParents. In 2007, he received an Annie Award for music in a television production for the same series.
Originally from Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, Moon graduated from the University of Arizona School of Music. Inspired by the music of Chick Corea, he began his career in the 1980s and worked on other projects by The Fairly OddParents creator Hartman, including Danny Phantom and T.U.F.F. Puppy.
In addition to his acclaimed television work, Moon contributed to films such as The Brady Bunch Movie (1995), A Very Brady Sequel (1996), Come on Get Happy: The Partridge Family Story (1999), and A Fairly Odd Movie: Grow Up, Timmy Turner! (2011). His final credit is as a composer for the 2025 series The Artist, set to premiere on a streaming service.
Moon is survived by his wife, Jennifer, three adult children—daughters Chelsea and Savannah, and son Dusty—his parents, two sisters, and seven grandchildren, with another grandchild expected soon.
The family indicated in their Facebook post that they will hold a memorial service in Los Angeles on February 7, which would have marked Moon’s 64th birthday. A second memorial will take place later in Wisconsin.
