Reese Witherspoon has issued a warning to fans about scammers using her likeness on social media platforms. In a video posted on TikTok on January 14, the actress, 49, described her recent experiences with impersonators creating fake accounts under her name.
“This is important,” Witherspoon stated in the video. “I want to just tell you what I’ve been dealing with for the past 24 hours.” She highlighted that multiple accounts on TikTok and Instagram have been attempting to deceive her followers. “They go into people’s DMs, and they try to build a relationship, they try to extract personal information, plan meet up times,” she explained.
Witherspoon emphasized her distress over this situation, stating, “This is not me. And it’s so upsetting that people would use my name to manipulate people, but I want you to know that I would never, ever manipulate you.” She reiterated that she would never contact fans for money or personal information.
To protect herself and her followers, Witherspoon urged viewers to verify accounts before engaging. “If somebody’s talking to you, this is not just me. This is happening across the board, but it’s really upsetting to me that this is happening on such a large scale,” she added. “So please be careful out there, and please know, I would never, never reach out to you to manipulate you or take anything from you.”
Witherspoon joins a growing list of celebrities cautioning fans about online scams. In June 2025, actress Helen Mirren alerted her audience to emails from an account misusing her identity to promote a fake charity. Other stars, including Sandra Bullock, Johnny Depp, and Tom Hanks, have also made similar warnings regarding impersonation and scams in recent months.
