Ready Or Not 2: A Fun and Thrilling Sequel with Samara Weaving at SXSW
The anticipated sequel Ready or Not 2: Here I Come made its world premiere at SXSW, continuing the story of Grace, portrayed by Samara Weaving, as she navigates the aftermath of a harrowing experience. The film picks up immediately after the events of the original, in which Grace emerged bloodied and defeated on the burning steps of her deceased husband’s family mansion after surviving a deadly game of hide-and-seek.
In the sequel, Grace finds herself awakening in a hospital bed, where she is reunited with her estranged younger sister, Faith, played by Kathryn Newton. Their reunion is short-lived, however, as they are soon confronted by wealthy cultists intent on completing the sacrifice the Le Domas family failed to fulfill. The stakes are astoundingly high and the outcome of this new round of hide-and-seek could provide the victor with ultimate power.
The film ramps up the gore and tension, taking the shocking twists of the original to new heights. Following the explosive finale of the previous installment, where surviving members of the Le Domas clan met gruesome ends, the sequel does not shy away from intensity and humor as competing families grapple with the consequences of defying the directives of their satanic benefactor, Mr. Le Bail.
Elijah Wood appears as a nameless lawyer, whose role is pivotal in maintaining order among the families vying for the position on the High Council. His performance expands the lore established in the first film and leaves open possibilities for future narratives in this darkly comedic franchise.
The sibling dynamic between Weaving and Newton serves as the emotional core of the film. Their portrayal of two sisters forced to depend on one another amid chaos blends humor with an exploration of their familial history.
Supporting performances by Sarah Michelle Gellar and Shawn Hatosy introduce a more privileged perspective, highlighting the contrasts between their upbringing and that of Grace and Faith. As the film unfolds, the tensions between the characters escalate, resulting in a chilling crescendo.
A robust ensemble cast, including Gellar, Hatosy, David Cronenberg, Kevin Durand, Néstor Carbonell, Maia Jae, and Olivia Cheng, rounds out the portrayal of elite families, each with their own historical significance, engaged in this twisted game of survival.
Ready or Not 2: Here I Come promises to deliver the thrilling, blood-soaked experience that fans have eagerly awaited over the past seven years, potentially setting the stage for a trilogy in the chilling world crafted by Radio Silence.
