Netflix premiered its latest installment of the Knives Out series, Wake Up Dead Man, at the Toronto Film Festival in September. Following a brief theatrical release around Thanksgiving, the film will be available for streaming on December 12.
Since its debut, the film has been recognized as a Top 10 film by the National Board of Review. Director Rian Johnson, who previously received Oscar nominations for Screenplay for both the original Knives Out and its sequel Glass Onion, now faces anticipation regarding potential nominations for this latest entry.
Wake Up Dead Man centers around a quaint church led by the influential Monsignor Jefferson Wicks, portrayed by Josh Brolin. When troubled young priest Jud Duplenticy, played by Josh O’Connor, is assigned to assist him, he discovers deeper secrets within the church’s Gothic walls and its surprisingly devoted congregation.
As Jud’s suspicions mount, a murder occurs, leading to his status as the prime suspect. The local sheriff, portrayed by Mila Kunis, calls in the renowned detective Blanc, who is skeptical of the church. As Blanc and Jud collaborate to untangle the mystery, they confront themes of faith, belonging, and belief amid a series of unexpected twists.
The film features a noteworthy ensemble cast, including Glenn Close, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Cailee Spaeny, Daryl McCormack, and Thomas Haden Church.
