Ray Nutt, CEO of Fathom Entertainment, Announces Plans to Step Down
Ray Nutt, the chief executive officer of Fathom Entertainment, has announced his retirement, effective this fall, after a nine-year tenure. Nutt plans to assist the board in the search for his successor to ensure a seamless transition as the company enters what he describes as “a terrific new chapter in its growth and evolution.”
Fathom Entertainment operates under a distinctive ownership model, with equal stakes held by three major theatrical operators: AMC Entertainment, Regal Cineworld, and Cinemark. The company, which was formerly known as Fathom Events, rebranded to Fathom Entertainment in 2025 to reflect its expanded offerings.
Nutt’s leadership has garnered praise from the CEOs of all three chains. Fathom collaborates with various distributors and studios to deliver diverse programming in theaters, contributing to box office success with releases such as The Chosen, reissues of Coraline and The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, and The Met Opera Live series.
AMC chief Adam Aron highlighted the significant impact of Nutt’s leadership: “His direction has delivered meaningful benefits to AMC, the broader theatrical exhibition industry, and, most importantly, moviegoers nationwide. Fathom has further strengthened its position as the leading force in alternative theatrical experiences.”
Eduardo Acuna, CEO of Regal Cineworld, praised Nutt as “an exceptional leader” who transformed Fathom into an innovator in theatrical distribution, expanding audience expectations of the cinema experience. Similarly, Cinemark’s Sean Gamble noted Nutt’s role in promoting a variety of non-traditional stories and events, stating that his leadership has enhanced opportunities for diverse audiences to engage with alternative programming on the big screen.
Nutt joined Fathom as CEO in 2017, following a prior role on the company’s board and serving as Senior Vice President of Business Relations at Regal.
