R.J. Decker Shifts to 9 PM on Tuesdays While We Wait for Season 2 News on Scott Speedman’s Drama
ABC’s light crime drama, R.J. Decker, starring Scott Speedman, is set for a scheduling change. Currently airing at 10 PM on Tuesdays, the series will move to the 9 PM slot once High Potential concludes its second season on April 7. The show will also be available for streaming on Hulu the day after it airs.
This adjustment mirrors a previous shift for The Rookie, which transitioned from a 10 PM to a 9 PM slot last season following the debut of its seventh season. Earlier this year, The Rookie was moved to Mondays to accommodate the introduction of R.J. Decker.
To promote its new time slot, ABC will re-air the first three episodes of R.J. Decker in a back-to-back format on April 9, offering the network an opportunity to evaluate its potential for renewal.
Since its premiere, R.J. Decker has attracted 3.69 million Live+Same Day viewers, marking ABC’s highest-rated 10 PM drama debut in over five years. The series has maintained a consistent presence in Hulu’s Daily Top 5. While it has yet to reach the success of High Potential, it shows promise for renewal, although it remains early in its run.
Another newcomer launched alongside R.J. Decker this season, the Scrubs reboot, appears to be securing its renewal thanks to its solid multi-platform performance.
R.J. Decker, created by Rob Doherty, features Speedman as a former newspaper photographer turned private investigator navigating a crime-filled South Florida landscape. The cast also includes Jaina Lee Ortiz, Bevin Bru, Kevin Rankin, and Adelaide Clemens.
The series, inspired by Carl Hiaasen’s novel Double Whammy, is produced by 20th Television. Doherty serves as showrunner, writer, and executive producer, alongside Hiaasen, Carl Beverly, Sarah Timberman, and Paul McGuigan, who also directs and produces. Speedman is also credited as a producer.
