Postmedia Studios and Elevation Pictures Unite to Support Canadian Film Projects
In a significant move for the Canadian film industry, Postmedia Studios and Elevation Pictures have announced a strategic partnership aimed at financing, developing, and launching select Canadian feature projects. This collaboration marks a commitment to bolster the country’s entertainment landscape.
The partnership will be inaugurated with Fire Weather, a feature documentary commissioned by CBC and produced by Elevation Pictures and Mercury Films. Directed by Jennifer Baichwal and Nicholas de Pencier, the film explores the human, environmental, and societal impacts of wildfires, highlighting narratives of lives forever altered by these events.
In conjunction with the documentary’s theatrical release, Postmedia Studios plans to undertake coordinated, multi-platform promotional efforts across its extensive network, maximizing reach and audience engagement.
Established in 2024, Postmedia Studios operates as a subsidiary of Postmedia Network Canada Corp, which encompasses more than 110 brands across various print, online, and mobile platforms. The studio combines national audience analytics with innovative financing models to enhance the development, production, and distribution of films.
“Postmedia Studios is focused on connecting Canadian stories with audiences at scale, and this collaboration represents a powerful new pathway for filmmakers,” said Erika Tustin, Vice President of Content Monetization at Postmedia. She emphasized that the partnership leverages Postmedia’s strengths, thereby supporting projects like Fire Weather to achieve success across Canadian markets.
Elevation Pictures, a key player in the industry since its launch in 2014, has positioned itself as Canada’s leading film distributor, with notable titles like the Oscar-winner Sentimental Value and nominees such as The Secret Agent and Marty Supreme. The company expanded into film production in 2016, with a portfolio that includes the Golden Globe-nominated French Exit and several other acclaimed titles.
Noah Segal, Co-President of Elevation Pictures, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration. “We’re thrilled to partner with Postmedia Studios on a model that helps create new opportunities for filmmakers,” he stated, highlighting the importance of strategic partnerships in enhancing Elevation’s content creation efforts.
This partnership between Postmedia Studios and Elevation Pictures represents a promising step forward for the Canadian film industry, providing filmmakers with enhanced opportunities for development and audience reach.
