Peacock Integrates Dolby Technology to Enhance Streaming Experience
In a significant move for the streaming industry, NBCUniversal’s Peacock announced on Monday evening that it will fully integrate Dolby’s advanced picture and sound technology. This development, revealed at CES in Las Vegas, marks a first in the streaming sector.
The initiative aims to elevate the viewer experience for pay-1 movies from Universal and major live sports events, including the NFL, NBA, and Premier League. Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos will be introduced later this year during live sports broadcasts on Peacock. Additionally, the platform plans to incorporate Dolby Vision 2 and Dolby AC-4 following their launch in 2026.
Peacock currently boasts 41 million subscribers, but it lags significantly behind other streaming services. Last fall, the platform implemented a price increase, raising the monthly fee for Peacock Premium by $3 to its current rate of $10.99. February is set to be a pivotal month for the service, featuring high-profile events such as the Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina, the Super Bowl, and the NBA All-Star Game, which could positively impact subscriber growth.
Dolby emphasizes that its technology addresses common viewer complaints regarding dimly lit scenes, enhances color vibrancy, and improves dialogue clarity. Furthermore, it aims to create a more immersive sound experience from sports venues.

David Bohunek, Senior Vice President of Global Video Engineering at NBCUniversal, expressed that the collaboration with Dolby is focused on providing viewers with programming “exactly as creators intended – with breathtaking picture and immersive sound that brings every moment to life.”
