PCCW and SK Global Debut ‘The Season’ at Filmart: Anson Lo Talks About His Cameo and Upcoming Indian-Inspired Music
PCCW Media and SK Global Launch New Series at Filmart
PCCW Media and SK Global unveiled their latest premium series, The Season, this week at Filmart in Hong Kong, featuring a series of lavish launch events.
The rollout commenced on Wednesday with a Q&A session at Filmart, led by show creator and executive producer Yalun Tu, known for NCIS: Hawaii. He was joined on stage by the main cast, followed by a launch party aboard a luxury yacht in Victoria Harbour.
The Season has been characterized as a “champagne-fueled revenge drama” that follows a group of friends indulging in opulence as Hong Kong’s boating season kicks off. Central to the narrative is the Hext family, a long-established symbol of wealth in the city’s elite, with newcomer Cola entering the picture bearing a hidden agenda.
The English-language series showcases an ensemble of international talent, including Jessie Mei Li (Shadow And Bone), Chris Pang (Crazy Rich Asians), Lee Jae-yoon (Physical 100 Season 2), Karena Lam, Justin Chien (The Brothers Sun), Yvonne Chapman (Avatar: The Last Airbender), Celina Jade (Wolf Warrior 2), and Toby Stephens (Percy Jackson And The Olympians).
Completing the cast are model and actress Kōki, along with musician and actor Anson Lo from the band Mirror, who appears as a fictional version of himself. “This is my first time playing Anson Lo,” he humorously remarked during the launch. Lo is one of Hong Kong’s most famous contemporary musicians, renowned for his appeal among younger audiences. Recently, he has transitioned into acting, featuring in several film and television projects, including The Moon Thieves by Kim-Wai Yuen and Berry Ho’s We 12.
“I tend to say yes to a lot of acting roles because I don’t get acting projects as often as music projects, so I treasure every opportunity,” Lo noted, adding that he recently worked on a project with acclaimed Hong Kong filmmaker Johnnie To. “I learned a lot of things from him. He taught me to do less because his process is way more natural. I only shot for like four days, so I’m looking forward to seeing it.”
The Season consists of six episodes and is set to be available from June on Viu throughout Asia, the Middle East, and South Africa. In the U.S., Hulu will host the series, while Now TV will broadcast it in Hong Kong. A deal for UK rights is expected to be confirmed soon.
