Paul Walter Hauser Joins the Cast of Netflix’s Live-Action Scooby-Doo Series
Actor Jack Hauser has been cast in an undisclosed role for Netflix’s upcoming live-action series based on the beloved Scooby-Doo franchise. His addition follows the announcement of the show’s core cast, which includes Mckenna Grace as Daphne Blake, Tanner Hagen as Shaggy Rogers, Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma Dinkley, and Maxwell Jenkins as Fred Jones.
The untitled series, led by showrunner and executive producers Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg, serves as a modern reimagining of the classic Warner Bros cartoon. It focuses on the origin story of the Mystery Inc. gang, including the iconic Great Dane, Scooby-Doo, exploring the initial case that propelled them into mystery-solving.

Set during their final summer at camp, the plot unfolds as childhood friends Shaggy and Daphne become entangled in a haunting mystery involving a lost Great Dane puppy, potentially a witness to a supernatural murder. They join forces with the analytical townie Velma and the enigmatic newcomer, Freddy, as they face a chilling nightmare that threatens to unearth their secrets.
Warner Bros Television is producing the series. In addition to Appelbaum and Rosenberg through their Midnight Radio production company, the executive producing team consists of Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman via Berlanti Productions, along with André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, and Adrienne Erickson from Midnight Radio. Toby Haynes will direct the first episode.
The Scooby-Doo franchise, which originated with CBS and Hanna-Barbera’s animated series in 1969, has remained popular for over five decades. It has inspired three theatrical films, nearly 40 animated home entertainment releases, and more than a dozen animated series. Notably, Netflix’s adaptation will mark the franchise’s first foray into live action, following the early 2000s films featuring Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Matthew Lillard, and Linda Cardellini.
Hauser, an Emmy and Golden Globe winner acclaimed for his performance in Apple TV’s thriller Black Bird, has an impressive filmography. In 2025, he featured in Searchlight’s Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere, Paramount’s The Naked Gun, and Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps. He will next appear alongside Mark Wahlberg in Peter Farrelly’s comedy Balls Up, scheduled for release on Prime Video on April 15. Hauser is also expected to star in Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil reboot among other projects.
Hauser is represented by WME, Artists First, and Schreck Rose Dapello.
