Paramount Channel 5 Shares Exciting Super Bowl Coverage Plans for the UK
Channel 5 to Broadcast First Super Bowl in Over Two Decades
Channel 5, now rebranded simply as 5, has announced its plan to cover the Super Bowl for the first time in more than 20 years. This significant event in American sports will take place at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, featuring a matchup between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks. The live broadcast is set to begin at 10:30 p.m. GMT on Sunday.
Dermot O’Leary and Sam Quek will host the coverage, accompanied by NFL stars who will provide insight and analysis throughout the game. The network will also showcase the halftime performance featuring multi-Grammy winner Bad Bunny, followed by on-field celebrations, including the presentation of the Lombardi Trophy. Troy Hawke will be on-site at the NFL Honors ceremony, while TikTok star Ellie Evelyn will interview some of the UK’s most dedicated NFL fans.
In the UK, the Super Bowl has traditionally been available on free-to-air television, having aired previously on ITV for four years before transitioning to Channel 5, where it has not been broadcast since 2004.
This season, Channel 5 has aired two NFL games per week as part of a partnership involving Paramount UK, the NFL, and CBS Sports. Despite this positive development, the network’s coverage faced criticism from fans after introducing gamification elements when it began airing in September.
