Pamela Anderson’s Sons Inspired Her to Bring Back ’90s Classic Barb Wire: A Touch of Redemption
Pamela Anderson Considers Reboot of Barb Wire as a Dark Comedy
Pamela Anderson is exploring a potential reboot of her iconic role in Barb Wire as a television series, described by her sons as a “dark comedy.” Although the original film, released in 1996, met with a lukewarm reception, it has since gained a cult following, which Anderson describes as a "bit of redemption."
Anderson’s sons, Brandon Lee, 29, and Dylan Lee, 27, have taken the lead in approaching their mother with this reboot idea, drawing inspiration from the original comic series. “My sons came to me and said, ‘Mom, we want to do a TV version of Barb Wire,’” Anderson shared in a recent interview. “And I was like, ‘What? Really?’”
The project is currently under development, and Anderson expressed excitement about revisiting the character. "More like a dark comedy,” she explained, emphasizing her eagerness to contribute to the new adaptation.
The original Barb Wire film was often criticized but is now appreciated by many as a cult classic. Anderson compared its evolving reputation to other films like Barbarella and Mr. Freedom, both of which initially received poor reviews yet have since found loyal audiences. "In the end, what is success?" she pondered. “It’s still around, and people love that character too.”
Reflecting on her portrayal in the original film, Anderson noted, “It was mostly a superficial-looking character, because it was a cartoon. I don’t think we failed at all. I think we did exactly what we intended to do.” She views the reboot as a chance for further redemption in her career. "My children are very protective of me, and they’re going to have fun with this," she added.
While Anderson has not committed to appearing in the new series just yet, she acknowledged the influence her sons have on her decisions. “No plans at this point. But you never know. They talk me into anything. I’ll do whatever they tell me to do.”
Anderson also highlighted her pride in her sons, who are entrepreneurs in their own right. "To see them blossom as entrepreneurs and businessmen has been so incredible to watch," she remarked. "And I get to be an actress. We do have a family business, and it just makes everything more special."
This latest venture not only marks a new chapter for Anderson but also showcases a collaborative dynamic within her family as they navigate this creative endeavor together.
