Pamela Anderson and Debbie Harry Star in New Comedy ‘Maitreya’ at Cannes Market
EXCLUSIVE: Pamela Anderson, renowned for her role in The Naked Gun, is set to collaborate with pop icon Debbie Harry in the upcoming comedy Maitreya, which will be showcased at the Cannes market.
Produced by the Sound of Metal company Caviar, Maitreya tells the story of Maitreya (Anderson), a rising figure in the New Age healing community. Just as she plans to attend a conference in India, she receives a call from her estranged sister Monica, informing her that their father is dying. Instead of staying home, Maitreya opts to bring her entire family—including her mother Barbara (Harry)—to the conference, hoping to test her New Age healing theories while secretly gathering material for her next book.
Jonathan Krisel, an Emmy nominee known for Portlandia, will direct the film from a script by BAFTA nominee Samuel D. Hunter, recognized for The Whale. The production team from Caviar includes Bert Hamelinck, Michael Sagol, and Allison Hironaka, along with Danica Radovanov.
International sales for the film are being launched by Nadine de Barros’ Fortitude International at Cannes, with CAA Media Finance and UTA Independent Film Group managing North American sales. Filming is set to commence in late 2026.
Anderson’s career is experiencing a renaissance, highlighted by recent SAG and Golden Globe nominations for Gia Coppola’s Cannes entry The Last Showgirl. Her upcoming projects include Rosebush Pruning, alongside Riley Keough and Jamie Bell, Somedays with Billy Bob Thornton, Kornel Mondruczo’s Place To Be featuring Taika Waititi, and a project directed by Michael Cera with Steve Coogan and Jamie Dornan.
Debbie Harry, the frontwoman of Blondie and a Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of Famer, is recognized for her roles in films such as David Cronenberg’s Videodrome and John Waters’ Hairspray.
Michael Sagol, producer and Managing Director at Caviar, expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating, “Being a part of bringing Maitreya to life with Jon and Sam has been so much fun already. After working together in the branded world for the past decade, now having the chance to produce Jon’s first feature film—a soulful exploration of a dysfunctional family, perfectly suited to his absurdist and distinctive comedic voice—makes us giddy with excitement!”
Pamela Anderson is represented by CAA and Hansen Jacobson, while Debbie Harry is represented by Untitled Entertainment and Umbrella Group Artist Management. Jonathan Krisel is represented by Caviar for commercials and UTA, and Samuel D. Hunter is represented by WME and Untitled Entertainment.
