On January 16, 2023, Andrea Andrade, a renowned California beauty queen, died at the age of 35, having battled colon cancer for nearly a decade.
Her husband, Chris Wilson, shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, stating, “My eternal love. I know this isn’t goodbye. I’ll see you on the other side baby. Keep your heavenly arms around me, I love you mi amor.” The post featured a carousel of cherished memories together, shared on January 20.
Diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer in 2017, Andrade was given a prognosis of six months to two years. However, she went on to exceed this expectation significantly, living her life to the fullest.

Andrade garnered acclaim by winning five prestigious titles: Miss West Coast, Miss Nuestra Belleza USA, Miss Fresno County, Miss Regional West, and Miss California Congeniality. Together with Wilson, she co-founded the program “Not All Heroes Wear Capes,” aimed at supporting children battling serious illnesses.
“We would deliver Easter baskets to children in the cancer ward at the Valley Children’s Hospital,” Wilson explained about their initiative. “Later in the year, we would take these kids out to a sports game and include their families.”
The couple began dating a year after Andrade’s diagnosis. By this time, her health had significantly improved due to effective treatments, including surgery and chemotherapy, resulting in a two-year remission.
However, Andrade faced another challenge in 2020 when she was re-diagnosed as stage 4. Over the following years, Wilson stood by her side through numerous health challenges, witnessing her remarkable resilience.

In 2021, Andrade’s health took a turn as her tumors grew uncontrollably, leading to a stay in the ICU. Despite fears about her weakened state, she was able to undergo a life-saving surgery.
As Andrade faced hospitalization again in December, her family held onto hope for another miraculous recovery. “It was extremely difficult to see the person you love not bounce back,” Wilson expressed.
In her final days, medical staff advised a transition to comfort care at home, focusing on spending valuable time with family. Wilson remained at Andrade’s side, ensuring she felt loved and supported.

Wilson remained by Andrade’s side, even in her final moments. Alongside her family, he focused on providing love and support until the end.
In the wake of this profound loss, Wilson is determined to preserve Andrade’s legacy. Together with family, they are launching the Andrea Andrade Foundation to continue her philanthropic efforts, particularly for those affected by cancer, especially children.
The family is also working to support wig donation programs, reflecting Andrade’s appreciation for diverse styles during her treatment. “She bought 50 different wigs to express herself, truly making the most out of her situation,” Wilson recalled fondly.
