Overnight Lane Closures on 101 Due to Caltrans Bridge Work This Week
Overnight Lane Closures on 101 Freeway Begin Monday
Motorists planning late-night travel on the 101 Freeway at Santa Monica Boulevard should anticipate lane closures and potential delays starting Monday.
According to Caltrans District 7, these overnight closures are part of a $15.8 million project aimed at upgrading existing bridge railings and enhancing durability along three bridges on the freeway. The closures will commence nightly at 12:01 a.m. and continue through March 7, occasionally extending until 5 a.m.
Caltrans has outlined specific lane and ramp closures that drivers can expect during this time:
- Up to three lanes may be closed on northbound 101 between Melrose Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard.
- Up to three lanes could also be closed on southbound 101 from Western Avenue to Santa Monica Boulevard.
- The northbound Santa Monica Boulevard off-ramp is likely to be closed.
Additionally, the speed limit within the construction zone will be reduced by 10 mph. Caltrans advises drivers to exercise caution and adhere to posted signage related to the closures.
This construction project also affects a bridge on State Route 110, specifically along the Arroyo Seco Parkway, and is slated for completion by the end of 2027.
