Oliver Sykes, frontman of the British rock band Bring Me the Horizon, suffered a mild concussion after an audience member threw a phone onto the stage during the band’s concert in St. Louis on Monday night.
In footage captured by fans, the phone can be seen striking Sykes in the head as he performed “Happy Song” from the band’s 2015 album That’s the Spirit.
“Who the f— just threw a phone at my f—ing head?” Sykes exclaimed after being hit, promptly returning the device to the crowd. Later videos show him checking for injuries while continuing to perform “Can You Feel My Heart,” pausing multiple times to rub his temples and forehead.
Following the incident, Sykes took to his Instagram Story on Tuesday to update fans on his condition. “Alright everyone – just wanted to let you know I’m all good,” he wrote. “The phone to the head definitely smarted and I ended up with a mild concussion, but the swelling’s gone down a decent amount already.”
He also offered an apology to fans who witnessed his performance post-incident. “Last night I was struggling a bit on stage afterwards because singing was putting a lot of pressure on the wound and making things feel a bit disorienting while performing, so I’m sorry on my part for what may have seemed like a half-hearted performance,” Sykes added.
Looking ahead, he reassured fans attending their concert in Kansas City later that evening, saying, “everything should be fine for tonight’s gig.”
