North West is making headlines once again. The 12-year-old daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West addressed comments regarding her new black grills during an Instagram Live session on January 26.

In the livestream, which was later shared on X, North addressed a viewer’s comment by asking, “Why is my teeth black? Are we okay?” She quickly clarified that the grills were a temporary accessory, stating, “I could take them out.”

North debuted her grills last December on TikTok, alongside face jewelry that was left ambiguous regarding its authenticity. Her finger piercings have also sparked discussions, as she first showcased them while on a date with Kardashian in Rome last September, and again earlier this month as she revealed additional body modifications.

In defense of her fashion choices, North previously addressed backlash in a TikTok video, remarking, “This is for everyone that’s mad over a finger piercing.”

The emerging trendsetter continues to assert her style, even releasing a new song with her father, Kanye West. In “Piercing on My Hand (Ye Version),” shared via her Instagram Stories, she raps, “Piercing on my hand, the other holding bands,” and “No friends, just filter, you wouldn’t understand.”

Kim Kardashian has responded to concerns about her daughter’s self-expression amid ongoing public scrutiny. During an appearance on the Khloé in Wonder Land podcast, she supported North’s right to wear various types of clothing, piercings, and even her signature blue wig.

“I’m just not a judgmental person like that,” Kardashian said. “But, I think that no one knows unless they’re in my shoes what I’m dealing with and how we have to manage certain things from the outside world or even close in our life that we have to go through together.”

Kardashian emphasized the importance of understanding her parenting approach, noting, “I think like the one misconception that people might have is like, ‘Oh, she’s trying to be her bestie and lets her get away with a lot.’ Like, no, Northy actually has a lot of rules. [That’s the] one area I do let her express herself. I love her for that, and she would do it, you know, regardless.”
