NFL Star Cam Heyward Shares His Journey in New Documentary About Family, Career, and the Steelers with Iron 97 Productions
EXCLUSIVE: NFL star Cameron ‘Cam’ Heyward is the focus of an upcoming documentary from Deon Taylor and Roxanne Avent Taylor’s Hidden Empire Sports Collective.
The untitled feature will be directed by Taylor, known for films such as Black and Blue and The Intruder, and produced by Roxanne Avent Taylor, Ephraim Salaam, and Cam Heyward through his new production company, Iron 97 Productions.
A standout defensive tackle for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Heyward is a seven-time NFL Pro Bowler, a four-time First-Team All-Pro, and the recipient of the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award.
The documentary delves into the profound relationship Heyward shared with his late father, NFL legend Craig ‘Ironhead’ Heyward. Craig passed away at age 39 from brain cancer when Cam was a sophomore in high school. Known for his formidable strength during the 1990s, Craig Heyward earned recognition as one of the leading NFL running backs. Following his death in 2006, Cam embraced his father’s legacy by joining the Steelers and becoming a prominent defensive lineman. Years later, Craig’s youngest son, Connor, also joined the team in Pittsburgh.

Featuring previously unseen family archival footage and interviews, the documentary is framed as a heartfelt father-son narrative. Filming for the project is currently underway.
Heyward’s venture into filmmaking stems from his involvement in the NFL Career Tour organized by Hidden Empire Film Group and Skydance Sports, a program designed to provide players with insights into the entertainment industry and networking opportunities with film and television executives.
Heyward expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “Hidden Empire has given me the tools to embark on a journey to share my story – and my family’s story. So many people have stories, but not everyone gets to see the full picture. With this documentary, we hope to connect all the pieces and show what that full picture really looks like.”
Taylor echoed this sentiment, saying, “Cam is an extraordinary man in all facets of his life and a public role model in a time when they are becoming harder to find. He leads an inspirational and aspirational life and is inviting us in for a revealing feature centered on family that will simply hit different. We’re so happy and appreciative to be making this movie with him.”
