New Cast Members Join ‘Forever’ Season 2 as Filming Begins in Los Angeles
Production Begins on Season Two of Forever
Production has officially commenced on the second season of Mara Brock Akil’s Forever at Netflix. The series is expanding its cast to include one new regular and two recurring characters.
Malaika Guttoh has been added as a series regular, portraying the character Ameena. Joining her as recurring guests are Avery Wills Jr., known for his roles in Swagger and Shooting Stars, who will play Jaden, and Tre McBride from Fight for ‘84, portraying Elijah.
This upcoming season features a significant time jump for characters Keisha Clark, played by Lovie Simone, and Justin Edwards, portrayed by Michael Cooper Jr. Set four years post-pandemic, the storyline explores the pair’s new lives and relationships. As they navigate adulthood, they unexpectedly reunite during the summer of 2023, prompting the question, “Can exes really be friends?”
Returning as series regulars are Karen Pittman, Wood Harris, and Xosha Roquemore. Pittman and Harris will reprise their roles as Justin’s parents, Dawn and Eric, while Roquemore returns as Keisha’s mother, Shelly.
Brock Akil serves as showrunner, creator, and executive producer. The executive production team also includes Regina King, Susie Fitzgerald, Reina King, and Erika Harrison. Notably, Grammy-winning Khris Riddick-Tynes joins the project as the Executive Music Producer for this season, with Kier Lehman returning as Music Supervisor and original music contributions from Until Tomorrow.
Forever is part of a growing slate of Netflix productions in Los Angeles, which includes recent releases like Beef season 2 and Running Point season 2, along with anticipated titles such as Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story, Nobody Wants This season 3, and The Lincoln Lawyer season 5.
Season two will consist of eight episodes and continues to be a reimagining of the Young Adult novel by Judy Blume.
