Netflix is Planning a New Grown Ups 3 Film
Netflix has announced the development of Grown Ups 3, expanding the popular Adam Sandler comedy franchise. This news was revealed during the company’s Upfront presentation on Wednesday.
Kyle Newacheck will direct the new installment, having previously collaborated with Sandler on projects such as Happy Gilmore 2. This film became a notable streaming success last year, setting a Nielsen record with 2.89 billion minutes viewed in its first week.
The script is penned by Sandler and Tim Herlihy. Producers for the film include Adam Sandler, Jackie Sandler, Jack Giarraputo, and Tim Herlihy, with Kevin Grady and Judit Maull serving as executive producers.
Featuring Sandler and longtime collaborators from his Happy Madison production company, the Grown Ups franchise focuses on a group of childhood friends reuniting as adults during a summer vacation. David Spade, Rob Schneider, Chris Rock, and Kevin James are also set to reprise their roles in this third installment.
Watch on Deadline
The first two films in the franchise were directed by Dennis Dugan and released by Sony’s Columbia Pictures. The original Grown Ups, which premiered in the summer of 2010, grossed approximately $272 million worldwide, while its sequel, Grown Ups 2, made around $247 million. Given Sandler’s over-decade-long production deal with Netflix, which has resulted in more than ten films and other projects, the streaming platform is a fitting home for the next film in the series.
