On the evening of May 12, Elton John graced a pink-themed event space in Manhattan with an intimate performance during the annual Hot Pink Party, a gala dedicated to raising funds for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF). Known as the largest private funder of breast cancer research worldwide, BCRF has long benefited from John’s support. This year’s event paid tribute to Leonard A. Lauder, who passed away last year at the age of 92.

“I’ve been proud to support the Breast Cancer Research Foundation for decades. This year I’m performing to honor the memory of my friend, the great Leonard Lauder—whose unwavering dedication to this organization carried forward the extraordinary legacy of its founder, his wife Evelyn,” John stated. Evelyn Lauder, who passed away in 2011, established the BCRF in 1993 and played a pivotal role in popularizing the pink ribbon as a symbol of breast cancer awareness.
During his performance at The Glasshouse in Manhattan, John highlighted the ongoing work of BCRF’s over 260 researchers across 17 countries, stating they remain committed in the search for a cure “for this terrible disease.” He also expressed gratitude towards the Lauder family, who have been “great friends” to him. “It isn’t over, we have a lot of work to do,” he reminded the Hot Pink Party attendees. He specifically praised Dr. Larry Norton, saying, “(He’s) just a genius, bless his heart, I love him dearly.”
Opening with “Your Song,” John donned a pink suit paired with striking pink and black spectacles. His set list included beloved classics such as “Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters,” “Tiny Dancer,” “I Guess That’s Why They Call It the Blues,” and a heartfelt rendition of “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me,” concluding with an upbeat “I’m Still Standing,” which energized the audience, including notable attendees like Ashanti, Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka, and Vera Wang.
Hosted by Elizabeth Hurley, the global ambassador of the Estée Lauder Companies’ Breast Cancer Campaign, the 2026 Hot Pink Party raised an impressive $9 million for vital research. Over the past 30 years, BCRF scientists have been integral to every significant breakthrough in breast cancer research, contributing to a 44% decline in mortality rates in the United States.
