Netflix Approves New Napa Valley Romantic Comedy ‘Uncorked’ by Darren Star and David Schulner
Darren Star Greenlights New Series ‘Uncorked’ at Netflix
Darren Star is set to launch his latest project, Uncorked, on Netflix. The streaming service has officially greenlit the series, as announced by Jinny Howe, Head of UCAN Scripted Series, during a press event on Wednesday.
According to Netflix’s logline, Uncorked follows the journey of a talented yet self-destructive winemaker who returns to Napa Valley in search of a second chance at love and legacy, amid the pursuit of the elusive 100-point wine.
This announcement comes on the heels of Star’s success with Emily in Paris, which was recently renewed for a sixth season. It also follows Star signing a significant overall deal with Universal Television, the studio backing Uncorked, alongside Tony Hernandez and Lilly Burns’ production company, Counterpart.
Star will co-write and serve as co-showrunner for Uncorked, alongside David Schulner. Both will also serve as executive producers with Hernandez and Burns.
“Seeing audiences around the world fall in love with Emily in Paris has been a dream,” Star remarked. “As Emily’s story continues to inspire and unfold, I’m excited to continue my relationship with Netflix and explore a new world with Uncorked. We’re diving straight into the legacy and romance of Napa Valley, where every great vintage has a unique story to tell.”
Schulner expressed his enthusiasm for the creative direction of the series, stating, “Darren and I wanted to create a series that explores what happens when your greatest passion is also your Achilles’ heel. With Napa’s beauty and bounty as our setting, we hope the audience never wants to leave. We want to thank Netflix and Universal Television for indulging our copious amounts of day drinking in the name of meticulous research.”
Tracey Pakosta, Netflix’s VP of Comedy Series, US, echoed the excitement surrounding the project, noting, “Darren Star’s storytelling has found an incredible home on Netflix, with global hits like Emily in Paris and Sex and the City becoming true cultural touchstones for our members. We are thrilled that Darren and David have partnered on this new series which tells the story of romance and redemption set in the beautiful Napa Valley that we believe will connect with audiences around the world.”
