Netflix Announces Release Date for Season 3 of Heartbreak High
Netflix has announced the premiere date for the highly anticipated final season of the Australian drama Heartbreak High, set to launch globally on March 2. This announcement comes over a year after filming concluded for the Fremantle and NewBe production.
The series continues to follow the students at Hartley High as they navigate the challenges of preparing for graduation and stepping into adulthood. However, a revenge prank takes an unexpected turn, forcing the lead character, Amerie (played by Ayesha Madon), and her friends to cover their tracks or risk losing everything.
Madon is joined by an ensemble cast that includes James Majoos, Chloé Hayden, Asher Yasbincek, Thomas Weatherall, Will McDonald, Gemma Chua-Tran, Bryn Chapman Parish, Sherry-Lee Watson, Brodie Townsend, Rachel House, Chika Ikogwe, Kartanya Maynard, Aki Munroe, Ioane Sa’ula, Ben Turland, and William McKenna.
Heartbreak High serves as a reboot of the original Australian teen series that premiered in the mid-1990s, which itself was adapted from the 1993 film The Heartbreak Kid.
The launch date was revealed during Netflix’s recent “What’s Next” event for Australia and New Zealand, where sneak peek images were also shared for several upcoming projects, including Liz Doran’s My Brilliant Career, Allen—developed by Bluey executive producer Daley Pearson—and Breakers, featuring Antony Starr in a series about U.S. backpackers drawn into a seemingly ideal surfing community led by a charismatic figure.
Amanda Duthie, recently appointed as Director of Content for ANZ, expressed, “This year, we will proudly showcase more local stories and voices from every corner of Australia.”
Minyoung Kim, Netflix’s Vice President of Content for APAC, added, “Whether it’s award-winning series like Boy Swallows Universe or beloved IP like Heartbreak High, we’re seeing a new wave of Australian content and supporting the next generation of creative talent.”
