Netflix Announces Exciting New Mexican Content, Including a Canelo Álvarez Documentary, Live Boxing Event, and “Physical 100”
Netflix is set to unveil a series of new projects originating from Mexico, including a documentary on boxing champion Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez, a local adaptation of the reality competition format Physical 100, and coverage of Supernova: Genesis. This live event will feature influencers, celebrities, YouTube personalities, and comedians competing in boxing matches. Additionally, the slate includes a new film and a drama series produced by CBS Studios, along with casting updates for various other projects.
Ted Sarandos, CEO of Netflix, announced last year that the platform plans to invest $1 billion in Mexican originals over the next four years. This latest batch of productions illustrates the direction of that commitment.
The documentary focusing on Álvarez will chronicle his preparation for a pivotal bout against Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin, highlighting the pressures and criticism he faces in solidifying his legacy in Mexican boxing. Supernova: Genesis is a follow-up to the Supernova Strikers amateur boxing event, where celebrities and streamers engaged in matches. This event will mark Netflix’s first live broadcast from Latin America, with an audience of 22,000 expected to attend.

While boxing takes center stage, it is not the sole focus of Netflix’s Mexican offerings. The platform has expanded the cast for México 86, a film starring Diego Luna that chronicles Mexico’s hosting of the soccer World Cup. Joining Luna will be Karla Souza, Daniel Giménez Cacho, and Álvaro Guerrero. Additionally, Endemol Shine Boomdog will produce Physical 100: Mexico, the local version of the popular competition series.
In the realm of drama, CBS Studios is working on La Le De Alicia (Alicia’s Law), which follows Alicia as her life unravels when her husband, a Supreme Court Justice Minister, is imprisoned for corruption. Faced with the challenges of raising children and managing finances, Alicia must return to her career as a lawyer. Another new series, El Otro Padre (The Other Father), also joins the lineup.
On the film front, La Captura (Takedown) tells the story of two highway patrol officers who discover that a routine stop of a stolen vehicle leads them to confront one of the world’s most dangerous criminals. The film is directed by Chava Cartas, known for Counterattack.
Carolina Leconte, Vice President of Content for Mexico and Regional Licensing, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming projects. “We are excited to discover new ways of storytelling in Mexico,” she stated. “In 2026, we will launch an unparalleled variety of stories that explore new perspectives and genres, driven by the creativity and passion of the best Mexican talent. From epic dramas to comedies, adventures, action, and the best in live entertainment, these titles not only reflect our culture but also celebrate who we are and leave their mark, building collective memory.”
