Nathan Martin’s Impressive Comeback at the LA Marathon
American Nathan Martin Triumphs at 2026 Los Angeles Marathon in Dramatic Finish
Nathan Martin of the United States captured victory at the 2026 Los Angeles Marathon, showcasing an incredible finishing kick that secured one of the event’s most thrilling finishes. Martin narrowly edged out Kenya’s Michael Kamau in an unprecedented conclusion to the race, held Sunday in Century City.
After 26.2 miles, the outcome of the marathon hinged on mere steps. Leading for a significant portion of the race, Kamau seemed poised for victory, but Martin surged forward as the finish line approached, ultimately overtaking him in a breathtaking finale that resembled the dramatic narratives often found in Hollywood films.
As Martin crossed the line, Kamau fell face down on the ground, visibly exhausted and requiring medical assistance shortly thereafter. This race marked the closest finish in the history of the Los Angeles Marathon.
Both runners clocked an official time of 2:11:16.50, with Enyew Nigat of Ethiopia securing third place in 2:14:22.22. Martin’s win makes him the second American man to ever claim victory in this marathon, following last year’s champion, Matthew Ritchman.
In the women’s category, Priscah Cherono of Kenya led from the start and finished with an unofficial time of 2:25:18.31. The elite women’s race began 15 minutes and 45 seconds before the men’s, with the overall first finisher earning a $10,000 bonus. Cherono’s strong performance underscored the competitive spirit displayed throughout the day.
