This achievement marks a significant milestone for MUNA, comprised of Katie Gavin, Naomi McPherson, and Josette Maskin. The release of Dancing on the Wall represents their third studio album under Saddest Factory Records, following their breakout self-titled album in 2022. That record gained popularity through the collaboration “Silk Chiffon” with Phoebe Bridgers, earning both commercial success and critical acclaim. Dancing on the Wall showcases the band’s continued evolution in euphoric, emotionally resonant indie pop, with its title track being one of the year’s most immediate and danceable offerings.
In the poll, Charli XCX’s “Rock Music” secured the second spot, marking a conscious shift from the sound that characterized her successful 2024 album, Brat.
“If I’d made another album that felt more dance-leaning, it would have felt really hard, really sad,” Charli XCX explained in an April interview with British Vogue. “What’s interesting for me is to bend the possibilities of what my perspective on that could be.” The single is part of an upcoming album yet to be announced.
