Mud and Debris Flow Causes Property Damage in Wrightwood
San Bernardino County Families Displaced by Mudflow After Rainstorms
In San Bernardino County, families spent Christmas Day at an emergency shelter due to a substantial mud and debris flow that overwhelmed their neighborhoods following Wednesday’s heavy rainfall.
Early Thursday morning, after a brief pause in the rain, the San Bernardino County Fire Department swiftly mobilized to evacuate residents from affected areas, particularly around State Route 138 near the 15 Freeway.
Footage released by the fire department depicted a thick layer of mud engulfing homes in a Wrightwood community, with at least one vehicle entirely submerged in the mud.
Officials reported that over 120 first responders worked tirelessly overnight on Christmas Eve to ensure the safety of affected residents. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported, although one child was transported to a hospital as a precautionary measure.
The situation underscores the ongoing challenges posed by extreme weather events and the responsiveness of emergency services in times of crisis.
