The latest high school basketball action saw several standout performances across the City and Southern Sections on Monday.
In the City Section boys’ games, Downtown Magnets defeated L.A. University with a decisive score of 64-45. Franklin edged out Verdugo Hills 55-48, while Harbor Teacher had a commanding win against Rise Kohyang, finishing 72-30. Hawkins triumphed over Torres with a score of 64-53, and Lincoln narrowly defeated Wilmington Banning 58-54. Other notable results included New Designs University Park’s narrow win over Maywood CES, 27-23, and Orthopaedic’s 68-57 victory against Animo Robinson. San Fernando outlasted Panorama 44-41, Santee dominated Westbrook 71-34, and South East triumphed over Manual Arts 57-35. South Gate also secured a strong victory, defeating Locke 59-29, while Venice finished with a 65-52 win against Marquez.
Turning to the Southern Section, Azusa secured a solid 66-46 victory over Workman. Beverly Hills also found success, winning against Lawndale 66-43. Calvary Baptist defeated Whittier 65-57, and Cantwell-Sacred Heart had a close contest with La Salle, winning 56-54. Cathedral overwhelmed Mary Star of the Sea 65-18, while Claremont edged out Diamond Ranch 60-57. In a high-scoring matchup, Corona triumphed over Jurupa Hills 79-50. CSDR narrowly defeated Rubidoux 54-51, and Culver City claimed victory against Compton Centennial, 57-55. Dunn managed a tight 53-48 win over Coastal Christian, while Edison took down Huntington Beach 72-51. Eisenhower also had a significant win, defeating California 92-84, and Inglewood showcased a dominant performance against Leuzinger, winning 96-61. Other standout results included La Mirada defeating Dominguez 70-29, Marina edging Fountain Valley 61-56, and Santa Barbara overpowering Dos Pueblos 87-59.
In girls’ City Section games, Chatsworth triumphed over L.A. Marshall with a score of 70-55, while L.A. Hamilton had a commanding win against Northridge Academy, finishing 76-28. RFK Community dominated Marquez, winning 65-19, and Sherman Oaks CES narrowly edged Panorama 48-40. South East achieved a significant victory over MSCP with a score of 58-20, and Sun Valley Magnet bested Vaughn 40-29.
In the Southern Section, Bellflower edged Mayfair 36-34, while Bishop Diego secured a 49-31 win against Valley Christian Academy. Covina defeated Western Christian 51-43, and Culver City showcased their strength with a commanding 73-29 victory over Compton Centennial. Downey trounced La Mirada 68-36, while Gardena Serra dominated Ramona Convent, finishing 72-15. Other notable games saw JSerra defeat Corona Centennial 58-48 and Leuzinger overpower Inglewood 68-13, demonstrating the competitive spirit of the league.
In intersectional play, Indian Springs from Nevada took a decisive win over Baker, finishing 59-39 for the boys and 45-4 for the girls against the same team.
