Country music artist Miranda Lambert is mourning the loss of her beloved chihuahua, Cher, who passed away after 15 years together.
On December 28, Lambert, 42, shared a heartfelt Instagram tribute featuring a series of photos and videos with her dog. In the post, she announced that Cher had died the day prior.
Among the images was a poignant shot of Lambert holding Cher in the press room at the 2010 Academy of Country Music Awards, alongside another image of Cher enjoying a sunny day outdoors.
“Our sweet bear Cher crossed over the rainbow bridge yesterday,” Lambert wrote. “Cher gave us 15 years of love and all the chihuahua attitude and energy she had to give. And if you have ever had a chi chi you know what I mean.”

Lambert reminisced about adopting Cher from a rescue shelter in 2010 when the dog was just 10 weeks old. She recalled placing the tiny dog in her pocket as she began to bring Cher to all her events, even coordinating outfits for red carpet appearances.
“Thank you to her sweet soul for all the road miles she traveled,” Lambert added in her tribute. She also mentioned that she had nine rescue dogs when she met her husband, Brendan McLoughlin, seven years ago.

Since their private wedding in January 2019, Lambert and McLoughlin have one rescue dog remaining. In the tribute, she shared a video of herself doing push-ups with Cher on her back and playing with other dogs, capturing the joy Cher brought into her life.
Lambert acknowledged the emotional toll of losing pets: “We sure are ready for a break from the heartbreak y’all, but they are worth every tear we have cried,” she expressed. “Animals bring so much joy but I sure do wish dog years didn’t go by so fast. Rescue’s forever ❤️.”
The singer’s commitment to animal welfare has been evident throughout her life. Just last month, she shared news of the passing of two miniature horses, revealing the deep bond she formed with all her animals over the years.
“The best part about being an animal mom is the joy. The worst part is when the time comes to say goodbye,” Lambert reflected, expressing hope and love for her departed companions.
