Mickey Rourke Delivers Shotgun to LA County Sheriff’s Department
Mickey Rourke Surrenders Shotgun to Authorities
Oscar-nominated actor Mickey Rourke voluntarily surrendered a shotgun to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department this week, expressing his intent to leave the area and his decision to relinquish the firearm. This information was confirmed by the Sheriff’s Department in a report to NBC4 Investigates.
On Wednesday afternoon, deputies responded to a call from a member of Rourke’s team, who indicated that the actor wished to turn in his shotgun. The deputies met Rourke at his current residence, where they engaged with the 73-year-old actor, recognized for his performances in films such as The Wrestler, Sin City, Barfly, and Diner.
The shotgun in question was legally registered to Rourke. Following protocol, deputies took possession of the firearm for safekeeping. If the actor does not claim the weapon within a year, it will be destroyed.
Earlier in the week, Rourke addressed a "humiliating" GoFundMe campaign aimed at assisting him with back rent, which claimed it was initiated to help him maintain his living situation. In a video shared on Instagram, he expressed feelings of frustration and confusion, stating he was unaware of the fundraiser that sought $100,000.
"That’s not me, okay?" Rourke explained. "I’d rather, if I needed money, I wouldn’t ask for no f—–g charity. I’d rather stick a gun up my a– and pull the trigger."
The actor reflected on his career during the post, acknowledging challenges he has faced in managing it, particularly due to setbacks caused by the pandemic and a writers’ strike, which contributed to financial difficulties regarding a rental property.
