Trixie Mattel Revives Classic Tune with Disco Remix
In a surprising twist to pop culture nostalgia, Trixie Mattel unveiled a disco remix of the theme song from the iconic television series Little House on the Prairie during the December 30 episode of The Bald and the Beautiful with Trixie and Katya. This unexpected reimagining has garnered significant attention, compelling the drag performer to release the full track on YouTube and SoundCloud.
Trixie recounted her fondness for the series while chatting with co-host Katya Zamolodchikova. "Do you remember that little girl from Little House on the Prairie, Nellie Oleson?" she asked. Nostalgia flowed as they shared their experiences, leading Trixie to announce her plan to revisit the show: “I think I’m going to rewatch it,” she remarked.
She then pivoted to her recent creative endeavors, highlighting, "I know this is not on anybody’s bingo card today. I’ve been doing a lot of producing for other people." Trixie’s playful suggestion about a disco remix of the theme caught the attention of listeners. “Would you bop around to the Little House on the Prairie Disco theme?” she asked, prompting laughter and intrigue.
After playing the remix, audience reactions poured in, with one commenter noting, "My straight, 69-year-old father came running into the room and screamed LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE????? and started dancing. Trixie, prepare for EVERYONE to be popping at the club."
The remix quickly gained traction online, amassing thousands of listens shortly after its release. Equally enthusiastic was Melissa Gilbert, who portrayed Laura Ingalls Wilder on the series. In a comment on the original video, Gilbert dubbed the remix "The Best Ever!" and shared it with her substantial fan base on Instagram, expressing her joy with, “I watched the whole thing on YouTube. Such fun!! Thank you, Trixie Mattel.”
Originally airing for nine seasons with over 200 episodes, Little House on the Prairie is set to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2024, solidifying its place in television history.
