Melissa Auf der Maur Shares Exciting News About Her Book Tour for Even the Good Girls Will Cry
Melissa Auf der Maur, former bassist for Hole and a touring member of the Smashing Pumpkins, is set to launch her debut memoir, Even the Good Girls Will Cry: A ’90s Rock Memoir, on March 17, 2026. To mark the occasion, she will embark on a promotional book tour across several cities.
The tour kicks off at the Strand Bookstore in New York City on the book’s release date, where Auf der Maur will participate in a conversation with writer Naomi Fry. After New York, she will visit diverse locations, including Hudson, New York, at Basilica Hudson—a venue she co-founded—along with stops in Toronto, Chicago, and her hometown of Montreal by the end of March. A UK portion of the tour is also planned for early April, with further details forthcoming.
According to a press release, each event promises to be an intimate evening featuring a reading, discussion, and book signing with Auf der Maur. Following the discussions, attendees can enjoy an xMAdMx Darkwave DJ set, which will showcase a selection of synth music from the 1980s to the present. More moderators and special guests will be announced as the tour date approaches.
Even the Good Girls Will Cry is described as “part coming-of-age autobiography, part travel diary, part psychedelic scrapbook.” The memoir includes rare photographs from Auf der Maur’s music career, beginning with her early involvement in the Canadian alternative rock band Tinker. Pre-orders for the book are currently available.
Auf der Maur expressed her vision for the memoir, stating, “This book is about the decade that defined me and my generation, 1991-2001, and my life in the rock bands which allowed me to have a front row seat to an incredibly visceral and unforgettable moment in the counterculture. It’s a love letter to the power of music and one-of-a-kind voices that make the world a cooler place; it’s also an ode to the analog, and what magic has been lost. Sharing what our generation witnessed, and what the world once was, in my hope of building a more livable future together.”
