Meghan Trainor Reflects on Ashley Tisdale’s Apology About Her ‘Toxic’ Mom Essay and Shares Her Own Parenting Struggles

Meghan Trainor recently spoke out about the drama surrounding a “toxic” mom group, providing insights in an interview with Us Weekly, published on April 15. The singer revealed that Ashley Tisdale has since apologized to her amidst the fallout from this situation.
This comes more than three months after Tisdale, a former star of High School Musical, penned an essay for The Cut, where she detailed her negative experiences with a group of mothers. Trainor’s name was among those identified by social media users shortly after the essay’s release. In her response, Trainor acknowledged her shortcomings as a friend, stating, “I was a bad mom friend.” She went on to express that the other moms were supportive of one another, but her busy schedule prevented her from being more involved.
“I brought them to dinner and paid for it because I was like, ‘I’m so sorry that I’m just not present,’” Trainor shared. Reflecting on the public attention the story received, she remarked, “I saw my face everywhere, and wait a second, I’m not even there … But some moms in that group don’t want to be famous and never wanted attention. It was really hard for a lot of moms, and I felt so bad.”
Trainor also expressed sympathy for Tisdale, saying, “I think it was just a lot of miscommunication and confusion. I don’t really know what happened, but I wish them all the best.” Tisdale reached out to Trainor, admitting, “I’m sorry, your name got dragged in,” to which Trainor replied, “It’s all right, girl. The world’s a silly, crazy place, and they just want something to talk about.”
Tisdale’s essay, released on January 1, prompted significant discussion over her references to feeling “left out” within her circle of mom friends. Fans speculated about the involvement of other notable names, including Hilary Duff and Mandy Moore.
In a subsequent appearance on Call Her Daddy, Duff shared her perspective on the situation, stating, “I don’t really think people had to connect very many dots, do you? It sucks on behalf of, like, six women and all of their lives … the timing felt not great, and I felt used.”
Throughout the controversy, Trainor has maintained a lighthearted demeanor. She recently posted a TikTok that humorously addressed the online discussion, referencing the title of her new album, Toy With Me, which releases on April 24, with the sentiment “Still Don’t Care.”
