Meet the Surprise Character in ‘Off Campus’ Season 1: Everything You Need to Know
Major Plot Developments Unfold in Finale of Prime Video’s Off Campus Adaptation
The first season finale of Prime Video’s highly anticipated adaptation of Elle Kennedy’s Off Campus series delivers unexpected twists, particularly for fans of the original hockey romance novels.
With episode six, titled "The Breakaway," the narrative shifts from the established relationship between Hannah (Ella Bright) and Garrett (Belmont Cameli) to focus on the emerging romance between Allie (Mika Abdalla) and Dean Di Laurentis (Stephen Kalyn). This change aligns with the third book in Kennedy’s series, The Score, where Allie, having ended her tumultuous relationship with Sean (Riley Davis), embraces Dean’s offer for a carefree affair. While the series mirrors the novel’s storyline, it notably alters the pacing of Allie’s initial encounter with Dean, delaying their physical intimacy.
The storyline evolves further in episode seven when Beau Maxwell’s (Khobe Clarke) sister, Joanna (Lauren Patten), visits and encourages Allie to explore no-strings-attached relationships. Their conversation introduces Carter St. James V, whose identity is cleverly masked until Allie recognizes him thanks to his fake ID. Carter is portrayed by Charlie Evans, known for his role in Paradise.
While Allie and Carter’s brief, passionate exchange might seem inconsequential, it sets the stage for deeper relational dynamics. Soon after, Allie expresses a desire for both her and Dean to date other people. A chance encounter leads Allie to Carter just as Dean confesses his feelings for her, culminating in an intimate liaison. In a dramatic twist, it is revealed that Carter is actually Hunter Davenport, a freshman hockey player keen on joining the team after Garrett’s suspension.
Complicating matters, Dean harbors resentment toward Hunter, stemming from their shared history. In The Score, Hunter is already well-integrated into the team and is depicted as having a mentor-mentee relationship with Dean, hinting at potential conflict in future episodes.
Hunter also features in the interconnected Briar U series, which continues to explore characters from Off Campus. His story, The Play, details his romance with Demi Davis, while Dean’s sister, Summer, stars in her own narrative, The Chase, with her love interest Colin “Fitzy” Fitzgerald.
The development of these relationships not only enriches the storyline but also promises intriguing possibilities for a potential second season, as viewers anticipate how Allie and Dean’s journey will evolve amidst new complications and connections.
