Overview of the Chambliss Family
Trinidad Chambliss has emerged as a standout quarterback for the University of Mississippi, transitioning from a backup at Ferris State University to a starter in the competitive landscape of college football. His parents, Trent and Cheryl Chambliss, remain influential in guiding his perspective amidst his rapid ascent.
“If you’re not having fun, then what’s the whole point?” Trent Chambliss remarked to the Daily Journal in October 2025. “But you can’t win every game. So therefore, how do you end up learning? How do you grow? … What do we do the next day? And what do we learn? What are they teaching us?”
Raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Trinidad and his older brother Tyler were nurtured in an environment where education and athletics were paramount. Trent, a high school administrator, and Cheryl, a former juvenile probation officer, prioritized not just sports but also life lessons in resilience and teamwork. Trinidad’s father introduced him to football, coaching at his son’s high school and instilling foundational skills that have contributed to his current success.
Following his transfer to Ole Miss in 2025, Trinidad seized an unexpected opportunity to start after the starting quarterback was injured. With his efforts, the Rebels are now contenders in the 2025 college football playoffs. Throughout this journey, Trent and Cheryl have remained steadfast supporters, attending every game to cheer him on.
Meeting and Family Background
Trent and Cheryl’s journey began when they crossed paths during a basketball tournament in Grand Rapids. Although Cheryl hails from New Jersey and Trent from South Bend, Indiana, they connected through shared friends, ultimately leading to their marriage and the arrival of their two sons.
Trent played football at Grand Rapids Community College as an offensive lineman and later transitioned into coaching at Forest Hills Northern High School, where Trinidad would also excel. Trent’s experience in education has been further established through roles that have included assistant principal at Wyoming High School since 2022.
Cheryl dedicated three decades to juvenile probation before retiring and shifting to roles such as substitute teacher and mental health receptionist. Her experience offered valuable insights into community challenges, shaping her approach to family and personal interactions.
Family Life and Early Influences
The Chambliss family has always emphasized the importance of sports. Both Trent and Cheryl cultivated Trinidad’s athletic abilities from a young age, with Trent noting that his son “could catch before he could walk.” Trinidad participated in various sports, but his passion for football ultimately prevailed. At just six or seven, he started practicing quarterback drills during his father’s coaching sessions, frequently drawing neighborhood kids into impromptu practices.
“He thoroughly enjoyed it,” Cheryl said, reflecting on Trinidad’s childhood, highlighting a keenness that never felt forced or burdensome.
Consistent with their family values, Cheryl maintains a poignant pre-game ritual with her son, praying together before each match. This tradition began at Ferris State and has continued seamlessly as he has transitioned to Ole Miss. “It’s been surreal and it’s been amazing, and we just feel it’s such a blessing," Cheryl expressed, acknowledging the positive attention Trinidad has received.
This supportive family backdrop plays a significant role in Trinidad’s rising profile as he embodies both skill and leadership on and off the field.
