Matt expressed his “absolute shock” upon learning of the pregnancy just six weeks after welcome the couple’s son, Rowen. “I didn’t think it was real. I wasn’t sure if I was ready to be a dad again, but God had other plans,” he shared.
Despite initial apprehensions, their excitement grew once they learned they were expecting a girl. “When we had the gender reveal and found out the baby was a girl, I jumped for joy,” Matt said. “I know in my heart how much having a daughter is going to mean to her.”
Choosing a name was a challenge for the couple, who wanted to maintain the tradition of sharing the same initials among family members. Matt noted, “It was actually very hard to find the perfect name. I’ve always loved the name Roma, and Alexa wanted something unique. Romi Mia felt like the perfect choice the moment we said it out loud.”
As the due date approached, both parents sensed an early arrival. A unique moment that reminded them of twilight before Rowen’s birth heightened their awareness of impending labor. “When I asked Alexa what she wanted for dinner, and she said she wasn’t hungry, that raised red flags,” Matt recounted. “I looked at her and said, ‘Uh oh.’ She looked back at me and said, ‘Oh yes, this baby is coming.’”

The following day, Alexa felt her water break shortly after a trip to the nail salon, which prompted a calm sense of urgency. She noted, “Matt was calmer than I was. He asked me to go into the bathroom, get ready for the hospital, and gather whatever personal items I wanted to bring with me.”
As Matt packed the car, family members rushed to help. Alexa described how Matt explained everything to their older son, Royce, who expressed concern about who would come over to play with him. “Matt’s parents jumped on a flight, and my dad and family were on call,” she recalled.

For Alexa, the delivery marked a significant moment, has she successfully navigated the process with the support from her doula, Tyler Grimes, nurses, and hospital staff. “A midwife named Linda and our doula, Tyler Grimes, were instrumental in telling me that it was reasonable to try,” she remembered. “They gave me hope at a moment when I really needed it.”
Recalling the experience, Alexa noted that familiar family support accompanied her through the labor. “While I was pushing, I wanted music to motivate me. We played Pitbull and ‘Push It’ by Salt N Pepa,” she said. “Matt was reading positive messages from our family group text, and it felt like everyone was right there with us.”
