World Premiere of Wuthering Heights Creates Buzz
Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi’s highly anticipated adaptation of Wuthering Heights premiered on January 28 at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles, generating significant excitement among attendees. The initial reactions on social media hailed the film as "scorching hot" and "gorgeous," with some suggesting viewers will either love or hate it.
Emerald Fennell, whose previous work includes Promising Young Woman, took on the role of writer-director for this modern interpretation of Emily Brontë’s classic novel. After the screening, early impressions revealed the film’s emotional depth, stylistic flair, and steamy scenes.
Jazz Tangcay, a senior editor at Variety, noted on social media, “This version of Wuthering Heights is a scorching hot and twisted tale. Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi’s chemistry and sexual tension is a whole other level of HOT!”

Tangcay added, “Only Emerald could take a classic, turn it on its head, make you fall completely in lust, and then utterly destroy your soul. An exquisite spectacle of craftsmanship that left me salivating over the costumes, cinematography, and production design.”
Collider’s Meredith Loftus remarked on the film’s aesthetic, highlighting the "gorgeous set design & costumes, striking cinematography, & bombastic music by Charli XCX," describing it as a passionate exploration of the relationship between Catherine and Heathcliff.
BuzzFeed UK’s Ada Enechi provided a caution to Brontë purists that this adaptation diverges significantly from the familiar text: "This is not the Wuthering Heights you read in school, and you’re either going to love it or hate it… and I loved it."
Enechi also praised the performances, noting, “Potentially my favorite performance from Jacob Elordi, definitely makes the top 3 for Margot.” She emphasized the breathtaking score and cinematography, calling the film “passionate” and “daring.”
According to journalist Maude Garrett, the film stands as "utter perfection," delivering vibrancy alongside emotionally resonant storytelling.

Pop culture influencer Francis Dominic expressed his enthrallment with the lead pair, describing Robbie and Elordi as “absolutely ELECTRIC on screen.” However, he indicated a desire for more scenes of intimacy.
Wuthering Heights, featuring an ensemble cast including Hong Chau and Shazad Latif, is characterized by Warner Bros. as a "bold and original imagining of one of the greatest love stories of all time." The film is set to be released in theaters on February 13.
