Mandy Moore Expresses Gratitude Amid Family Challenges
Singer and actress Mandy Moore took to Instagram on November 27 to express heartfelt gratitude following a challenging year. The 41-year-old, known for her role in This Is Us, shared her thoughts in a post that read, "It’s been a pretty wild and difficult year, but the top line is definitely overwhelming gratitude. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. The most grateful for these 4."
In her post, Moore included three black-and-white photographs capturing joyful moments with her husband, Taylor Goldsmith, and their three children—sons Gus, 4, and Ozzie, 3, and daughter Lou, 14 months. One striking image shows Lou crawling on the living room floor, encapsulating the family’s loving bond.
Earlier in the year, Moore faced significant turmoil when the Eaton wildfire threatened her home in Altadena, California. The devastation from the fire displaced approximately 180,000 people and destroyed over 16,000 structures. Moore revealed on January 8 that while the "main part" of her home miraculously remained intact, it was deemed unlivable, and Goldsmith lost his music studio in the disaster.
"We lost our garage and back house," Moore shared at the time. "Everyone we know lost everything. Every house on our street is gone. My in-laws, my brother and sister-in-law—six weeks from welcoming their first baby—our best friends. Feeling weird survivor’s guilt. We love this community and will do everything we can to help rebuild and support. Thanks for everyone for checking on us and offering us help. Altadena strong."
Later, Moore disclosed that her house ultimately needed to be demolished. "Clothes, furniture, pretty much everything will have to be disposed of … maybe even the walls too," she wrote in February. "We won’t be there for a very long time as it and the neighborhood itself get sorted out and cleaned and the rebuilding starts. I say all of this because I’m struggling."
Despite the hardships, Moore emphasized the importance of family, stating, "It goes without saying that our sweet brood and our pets are ALL that matters and home is where we are together … but having a sanctuary and safe space to feel settled really goes a long way too."
As the rebuilding process began, Moore expressed her frustrations with the bureaucratic hurdles in an Instagram Story in May. "Thanks, LA County, for making it as frustrating and impossible to rebuild after the fires as possible," she wrote. "Shouldn’t be surprised but it’s mind-boggling the red tape and hoops they’re putting us all through."
Moore’s challenges extended beyond the fires; in August, she condemned a hit-and-run driver who collided with her family’s car, describing the incident on Instagram, "To the woman who rear-ended my family and then drove off as we pulled over, hope karma finds you. Thankfully, everyone was OK but what kind of human does that?"
As Thanksgiving approached, Moore’s reflective message highlighted resilience and appreciation for life’s blessings amidst adversity.
