Man Taken into Custody After Lengthy Standoff with LAPD in North Hills
Armed Man in Custody After North Hills Standoff
An armed individual has been taken into custody following an extended standoff with law enforcement in North Hills early Thursday morning.
The incident unfolded around 3 a.m. when officers from the Los Angeles Police Department observed a Honda Civic parked illegally at the intersection of Hayvenhurst Avenue and Sherbourne Street. Upon approaching the vehicle, authorities noticed the suspect slumped over the steering wheel with a firearm nearby.
Despite the heavily tinted windows complicating visibility, police confirmed that the suspect was alive after witnessing him change positions. Efforts to persuade the man to exit the vehicle were unsuccessful, prompting the establishment of a multi-block perimeter around the area.
A SWAT team was subsequently deployed, and the situation concluded with the suspect’s arrest just after 6:30 a.m. According to police, the individual has a lengthy criminal record and is now facing felony charges. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident.
Roads surrounding the scene were closed but have since reopened. The suspect’s identity has not been disclosed to the public.
