Man Escapes Serious Injury in Street Racing Crash in Seal Beach; Friends Leave the Scene
Street Racing Leads to Fiery Crash in Seal Beach
Seal Beach, Calif. – A man is hospitalized following a serious street racing incident in Seal Beach, where he crashed into a light pole, igniting a fire. Dashcam footage captured the dramatic moments leading up to the collision.
The crash occurred early Saturday morning, January 24, at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Westminster Avenue, situated between Bolsa Chica and Seal Beach boulevards. Eyewitnesses reported that bystanders rushed to the wrecked vehicle, urging others to call 911. As flames engulfed the car, they managed to pull the driver to safety before emergency services arrived.
Lieutenant Julia Clasby of the Seal Beach Police Department remarked, "I’ve never seen a car enflamed like that or to that extent of damage with someone who wasn’t deceased." Upon arrival, officers found the driver severely injured about 50 feet from the burning vehicle. First responders quickly transported him to the hospital and initiated a search for any potential passengers.
"Utilizing Huntington Beach Police’s helicopter, flare resources from naval personnel, and our drone team, we conducted a thorough search for any ejected passengers but found no one else," Clasby stated.
Online discussions have identified a passenger named Kyle, who was reportedly rushed to the emergency room in critical condition. However, the investigation took a concerning turn when it was revealed that the driver’s companions fled the scene as officers arrived. This prompted a social media post from the Seal Beach Police Department, suggesting the driver reconsider his friend choices.
"He might want to start picking better friends because they did not care about his well-being and were more concerned about contact with law enforcement," Clasby added, highlighting the reckless behavior of the fleeing individuals. Approximately 40 to 50 vehicles reportedly sped away from the scene.
