Mahmoud Sabbagh’s Last Party In R. Desert Heads to Digital Release with Under The Milky Way
Saudi Director Mahmoud Sabbagh Partners for International Release of Last Party in R. Desert
Saudi filmmaker Mahmoud Sabbagh has finalized a deal with the France-based digital film distributor Under The Milky Way for the global digital release of his latest feature, Last Party in R. Desert.
The dark comedy marks Sabbagh’s third film, following his well-received 2016 comedy-romance Barakah Meets Barakah. Initially released on Netflix in July, the film explores the challenges faced by local impresario Najm, the son of a celebrated wedding singer, as he navigates professional struggles and a shifting nightlife landscape in contemporary Saudi Arabia.
Under the terms of the agreement, Last Party in R. Desert will be available on platforms including Apple TV, Google Play, and Prime Video across various international markets. The film is set to launch in the UK, Ireland, and other English-speaking regions on February 2, followed by releases in the U.S. and Canada on February 3.
The international rollout will be managed by Under The Milky Way’s distribution service, Claudia, which was developed with support from the French Ministry of Culture. After its initial release, the film plans to expand its availability to subscription and ad-supported platforms later in the year.
Sabbagh served as writer, director, and producer for the film, working under his Jeddah-based production company, El-Housh Productions, in collaboration with the Cairo and Dubai-based boutique production company Nine Projects.
